California off to strong start with series win over UConn

California was reeling Saturday afternoon having given up nine unanswered runs to blow a 12-3 lead, potentially swinging the momentum for the entire weekend series after the Golden Bears had dominated a tough, grinding Connecticut squad through much of the first 13 innings of the weekend. A solo home run by UConn’s Jake Studley with two outs in the top of the seventh inning had evened the score, sending gasps and grumbles through the stands at Stu Gordon Stadium.
