FULLERTON, Calif. — Cal State Fullerton third baseman Jerrod Bravo watched a close ball No. 1 and then stared as balls No. 2, 3 and 4 weren’t anywhere near the strike zone. He jogged down to first with a grin as wide as his face.
In a five-hour, 12-minute marathon of a game that lasted until nearly 2 a.m. PT Sunday morning and featured a likely record number of coaching mound visits that immediately followed pitcher-catcher mound visits, Bravo had won the game by being patient, drawing a bases-loaded walk in the 14th inning.
