OMAHA — Vanderbilt never wavered.
The Commodores began the 2019 campaign as the No. 1 team in the land in the Preseason D1Baseball Top 25 Rankings. And guess what? They’ll end the season there, too, after beating Michigan in the CWS Finals to claim the program’s second national title.
Though Michigan’s magical College World Series run ended with a loss to the Commodores, it had an incredible season. The Wolverines began the spring ranked No. 17 in our rankings, and finish the season as the national runner-up.
UCLA, which spent much of the regular season at No. 1, ends the year at No. 7 after bowing out in the Super Regional round to Michigan, while last year’s champion, Oregon State, dropped out of the rankings after struggling in the Corvallis Regional.
Vanderbilt holds the top spot in the rankings, and the Southeastern Conference finishes the season with the most teams in our rankings: Eight. The ACC has six teams in the rankings with Florida State and Duke joining the mix after entering the postseason unranked. Meanwhile, the Big 12 has three teams with Texas Tech leading the charge, the Pac 12 has two teams with UCLA and Stanford leading the way and the Missouri Valley has two teams in Indiana State and Dallas Baptist. Other leagues represented in our final rankings include the Big Ten, Big East, American and Mountain West.
