Skipper Bill Kinneberg retired after the 2021 season, and this is worth emphasizing: Utah’s 2016 Pac-12 championship is one of the more remarkable achievements in college baseball in this century. The Utes had been in the league for just five years at the time, having made the quantum leap from the Mountain West to the Pac-12. For context, just imagine a Sun Belt school coming into the SEC, and then winning the baseball regular season title in their fifth year in the league. It’s almost unthinkable.
