• FRESHMAN OF THE YEAR: Tennessee’s Chase Burns

Freshman of the Year Chase Burns headlines the 2022 D1Baseball Freshman All-America teams. Burns, who stepped right into the Friday night starter role for a Tennessee team that went on to become an SEC juggernaut, finished the season 8-2, 2.91 with 103 strikeouts against 25 walks in 80.1 innings. He is one of two Volunteers to earn first-team Freshman All-America honors, as rotationmate Drew Beam (the SEC Freshman of the Year) joins him.

Virginia Tech and UCLA also placed two players apiece on the first team. Third baseman Carson DeMartini and ace righty Drue Hackenberg earned first-team honors for the Hokies, while shortstop Cody Schrier and closer Alonzo Tredwell landed on the first team for the Bruins. Virginia had one player on the first team (outfielder Casey Saucke) and one on the second team (reliever Jay Woolfolk).

College World Series heroes Cade Horton (Oklahoma) and Hunter Elliott (Ole Miss) played their way onto the first team with their postseason exploits.

D1Baseball’s editors and national writers determine the All-America teams.
