It’s been since the 2019 season that Illinois has reached the NCAA Tournament, and that’s not a position head coach Dan Hartleb is comfortable with. Named the Big Ten’s coach of the decade by D1Baseball for guiding the Fighting Illini to regional play four times from 2011 to 2019, including their special super regional season of 2015, Illinois’ sub-.500 record in 2023 (25-27 overall, 12-12 in conference) was its first since 2017.
